Three Simple Questions to Realign with your Goals May 26, 2022 by Jessica StapfShareTweetSharePinHow to Kick Self-Sabotage to the Curb! I’ve been working alongside some pretty amazing women as they’re trying to reach better versions of themselves. Lately, we’re focusing in on physical wellbeing. This means a slew of things for different clients and, most likely for all of you. What I’ve found is that there are a few key questions that help them when they “fall off the wagon.” This means they’re too hard on themselves, want to give up, have an excuse, or maybe do everything else to avoid what they want to do. Can you relate? I know I can! Have you ever felt really “in flow” with yourself? Like 100% in your groove and feeling amazing. Maybe you’ve been walking every day on your lunch break, and it’s completely changed your workday for the better. Or maybe you’ve been getting up 30 minutes before your kids and it makes a huge difference in your morning. Whatever habits or practices that are true for you and make you the best version of you! But then something comes up; a feeling, excuse, another time commitment, etc., and we aren’t able to make it happen, so we just stop doing it altogether. We self-sabotage. Here’s the kicker – we know that it made us feel amazing. We know exactly what we need in order to reach the version of ourselves we know we’re capable of, yet we completely talk ourselves out of it. Maybe we’re perfectionists, we believe we’re selfish for putting ourselves first, we’re not worthy of a better version of ourselves, we’re too independent, or whatever it is. Everyone’s fear of failure looks a little different. It sounds crazy, doesn’t it?! But it’s SO TRUE. We do it all the time! So, first, I’d like to say that if you’ve ever fallen short, it’s okay. I really mean it – IT’S OKAY. We are human, and nobody is perfect, and you aren’t going to be either – hate to break it to you. Here are some simple questions I ask my clients (and myself) when we find ourselves in this predicament. What does it FEEL like when you’re in your powerful state? (Ex. Doing the thing that makes you feel amazing) What do you need to let go of right now so that you can do the thing? (Whatever that THING is that makes you feel amazing) What do you need to continue to get where you want to go? (What are the steps you are taking that are getting you there) The beauty of it? It grounds us in the simple idea of what it feels like to be there, what we need to let go of, and what we need to continue doing to get there. This doesn’t just relate to physical goals, my friend; it refers to anything you need it to! It’s a simple three-step practice that will get you back on the right track – whatever that looks like. One last piece of advice before I go! You will fail and you will fall short (again – we’re human). How you bounce back and pick yourself up again takes you farther than quitting ever will. Quitting is the only failure out there, so let go of everything else that’s holding you back, get back up, and crush those goals. You got this, my friend.
